Because of the war in Ukraine and Orban's "delusions" about a "great Hungary".
Slovak Minister of Sports and Tourism Rudolf Gulyak proposed to introduce compulsory military service in the country, particularly because of territorial claims from Hungary. This was reported by the tvnoviny.sk agency on Thursday, September 11.
Guljak proposes that Slovaks, upon reaching the age of 18, undergo a minimum of three months of training, but not in barracks, but near their place of residence.
"A war is raging outside our state, Russian drones are flying into Poland, and the prime minister of a neighboring state is dreaming of a "great Hungary." A state that is unable to defend its borders has no right to exist," the minister added.
He also believes that the situation in Slovakia is alarming because the country has no air defense system of its own.
The publication Dennik N specifies that this statement by Gulyak was the first time a Slovak official spoke publicly about Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's territorial claims.
In June 2023, Orban called Slovakia a "separated" territory from Hungary, wprost reported.
