The Telegraph: China Is Blocking Trump's Attempts To End The War In Ukraine

Beijing is interested in a long-term conflict.

China has no interest in ending the war in Ukraine, as the conflict is draining both Russia and the United States, while creating strategic advantages for Beijing.

This is reported by The Telegraph.

It is noted that Donald Trump is allegedly proposing new initiatives to end the war and pressuring the Kremlin, particularly through higher duties, demonstrations of military force and diplomatic contacts. Even his meeting with Putin is expected.

But according to the publication, it is China that is blocking any attempts to achieve peace. Beijing supplies Russia with critical dual-use components - microelectronics, drones, optics and other technologies. Production of drones is also established in China and in Russia in cooperation with Chinese companies.

China remains the main buyer of Russian oil and gas. In June 2025, it was China that accounted for 47% of Russia's crude oil exports, despite U.S. sanctions. Beijing is also cutting back on LNG imports from the US.

The publication notes that prolonging the war in Ukraine is a strategic benefit for China, which hopes that the simultaneous weakening of Moscow and Washington will create a favorable moment for action around Taiwan by 2027.
