The Telegraph: The White House Proposed To Attract PMCs From The U.S. As Part Of Guarantees For Ukraine

American companies should be a deterrent to Russia.

According to The Telegraph, U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed bringing in American private military companies to help with fortifications and be a deterrent as part of potential security guarantees for Ukraine.

Trump, in talks with European nations over potential security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a peace deal, allegedly proposed bringing in private military companies from the U.S. side to supplement the efforts of European Final details, including air patrols, exercises and a maritime mission in the Black Sea, could be revealed in the coming days.

The Europeans' work on the plan allegedly intensified after the U.S. and Russian leaders met in Alaska and Trump said Putin was supposedly comfortable with Western partners offering Ukraine security guarantees.

European officials say they see strengthening the Ukrainian army as the main deterrent to Russia to prevent a new "hot" war. Ukrainian forces are expected to be the ones standing "on the reinforced border on the front line" agreed to as part of a potential peace agreement.

European NATO members will continue to arm and train the Ukrainian military, using existing and new mechanisms to do so. They are also discussing the purchase of additional important systems for Ukraine, such as Patriot and NIMARS air defense systems, at the expense of European countries.

Some European countries have voiced the idea of a demilitarized zone around the frozen front line, which would be patrolled by peacekeepers or observers. However, there is clearly no common opinion on this issue, and the Ukrainian president has publicly criticized such an idea. European states do not want to engage their own servicemen as peacekeepers.

The deployment of European deterrent forces is considered far from the front, a notional "third line of defense." We could be talking about "thousands of European troops," and potentially dozens of countries - Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, and Northern Europe - are ready to join.

The figure of about 30,000 was previously mentioned in talks about the contingent, but now it "seems to have been reduced" - due to a lack of resources and fears that such a large presence would look like "muscle play" to the Kremlin chief.

The proposals from individual countries still lack specifics. The idea of creating a "no-fly zone" - which would allow Ukraine to resume civil aviation flights at last - is being discussed.

A patrol mission in the Black Sea, to be led by Turkey, is also being discussed to strengthen the safety of shipping.
