China is beginning to distrust the head of the Kremlin.
The Russian economy is being swallowed up by problems. China may lend a helping hand, but it is still only capable of delaying the crisis, not canceling it.
Economist Maxim Blunt told "Channel 24" that Putin will definitely ask China for money.
Blunt said Russia will try to sell the second branch of the Power of Siberia pipeline to China by asking for Beijing's participation and investment in advance. China had already refused at first, then said that if Russia wanted to build it, it could do it at its own expense.
"The price offered by China did not suit Gazprom. There was no point in investing in the project with such investments. China has all the trump cards on its hands, because, in addition to Russian gas, there is Turkmen gas, Kazakh gas, that is, there are enough suppliers only in Central Asia, not to mention all the liquefaction capacities that Arab countries have," the economist noted.
He continued that they are actively developing, because the rejection of Russian liquefied gas has created a boom in the energy market. Therefore, China can turn its nose up. Investing in Russia is getting riskier by the day.
"You can only lend money for a month. What makes sense - lending for 5 to 10 years - does not. Given Putin's age, given that the whole Russian system is built on Putin, it is very vulnerable because the man is mortal. Putin may die, and no one knows what will happen after Putin," Blunt emphasized.
According to him, Putin's successor may say that this criminal took money without the permission of the people, so Russia will not pay the debts. This was the case in 1917 when the Bolsheviks refused to pay the Tsar's debts. Therefore, China will try its best to delay the state loan.
What can China do?
According to Blunt, China may try to revive lending through the BRICS bank, which was created. For now, however, that bank is sticking to sanctions, despite the fact that Russia is one of the main players there, and has frozen Russian projects. The Chinese loan, however attractive it may be, will not change the structure of the Russian economy in any way.
"Yes, it may delay the crisis a little. It may make it possible to eliminate deficits in the economy, which are now increasingly frequent. Russia will be able to hold on for an extra 3 months, avoiding deficits of one kind or another. However, it will not change anything radically",
- emphasized the economist.
He added that this is understood both in China and in the economic bloc of the Russian government. Russia's prospects are not rosy. The most unpleasant thing for Russians is that there is not a single positive scenario in sight. It was easy to drive the economy up the mountain from which it is rolling, but it is quite difficult to stop this movement in the crisis direction.
