Politico: Europe Talks About Military Exercises In Ukraine

The only problem is in Hungary.

Most EU countries are ready to train the Ukrainian military right inside Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.

"I welcome the fact that today there was broad support for an extension of the mandate [of the EU military assistance mission in support of Ukraine] to provide training and advice inside Ukraine after any ceasefire," she told reporters after an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Copenhagen,

"Hopes for possible peace talks are at least naive. All Putin is doing is stalling for time, cheaply buying a pause to keep killing people," Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Jackalene said before the meeting.

A majority of EU defense ministers - with the exception of Hungary - are also pushing to use the remaining 6.6 billion euros of unallocated funds from the European Peace Facility to finance arms for Ukraine. Budapest has been blocking the use of the money for months.

To sway Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, an ally of Donald Trump, the money could be used to directly purchase U.S. weapons for Ukraine under a new scheme agreed upon by the U.S. president and NATO allies, Kallas said.
