Zelensky Responds To Proposal For Buffer Zone In Ukraine
Vladimir Zelensky

"It already exists."

Ukraine and Russia have long ago pulled their heavy equipment away from "zero" to a distance of 10 kilometers or more. Therefore, the buffer zone actually already exists.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a briefing by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

The Ukrainian head of state reacted to a Politico article that European leaders are considering creating a buffer zone between Ukrainian and Russian troops as part of a peace deal.

- I have heard this more than once from Europeans and Americans. Only those who don't understand the technological state of warfare today are proposing a 40-50-60 buffer zone, I've even heard a 100 km proposal. This is a completely different story. Today we have heavy weapons as it is 10+ km apart because everything is hit by drones. This buffer zone, I call it a dead zone, someone calls it a gray zone, it already exists," the Ukrainian president pointed out.

Zelensky specified that if Russia wants the Ukrainian army to be at a farther distance, Russian soldiers can be withdrawn deep into the temporarily occupied territories.

He said that now drones are actually burning everything out, so all heavy equipment has long been withdrawn.

- Look at the front line of the Russian army, where there are armored vehicles, tanks - zero, there is nothing, no one is already moving out, because everyone loses equipment day, night, at any moment. So this is just unnecessary talk," he said.

Zelensky reminded that the withdrawal of troops had to be negotiated during the Minsk process, but then there was a completely different war. At the same time, the separation of the soldiers of the two countries did not lead to anything.
