And it will be scaled.
Ukraine for the first time hit a Russian Kalibror carrier ship with a drone. The Bujan-M corvette suffered serious damage and was forced off duty. This strike showed that even Russian missile carriers cannot feel safe in the Sea of Azov.
How will the defeat of the Buyan-M affect the balance of power at sea? Should we expect a change in the tactics of the Russian fleet? About this site Charter97.org talked to the colonel of the AFU in reserve, military expert and flight instructor Roman Svitan:
- Indeed, this is the first time when it was the Kalibrs carrier ship that was struck. It is very important for us to disable or damage the carriers of these missiles, because the Russians use them very often in Ukraine.
This was not an FPV drone, but a drone of the "Beaver" type - a higher level, with direct control or a system of so-called "machine memory" with guidance. The task was accomplished: the damage was done.
The target was very correctly chosen - the ship's locators. "Blinded" corvette is extremely difficult to defend. That's exactly what was done: the strikes came on the locators, which actually deprived the ship of combat capability. Now it's going to be repaired anyway. And repair is always a long time. Our special services have found an effective way to disable warships, and it will be scaled up.
This will no longer allow the Russians to quietly carry out combat missions in "light" mode. Moreover, realizing the threat to the missile carriers, they may withdraw them to distant frontiers.
- Can this strike reduce the intensity of the use of Kalibr cruise missiles on Ukrainian territory?"
- The Russians will reconsider their tactics of use. At least for a few weeks it will exclude the use of Kalibrs from the near zone. From the far zone, for example, from near Novorossiysk, they will still be able to launch. But in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea - unlikely. Until they find an "antidote".
And then everything will depend on the intensity of work on missile carriers. If the AFU continue and increase their strikes, the issue of using Kalibras from sea carriers may be finally resolved.
- What other Russian targets may become the next targets for Ukrainian drones?
- Right now the priority is strikes on Russian oil refining and oil infrastructure. Including the Novorossiysk oil terminal. It is very important to hit the terminals in Ust-Luga and Primorsk - these are key points, and the faster, the better. There is also a certain sequence of these strikes.
In addition, it is necessary to "blind" the locators not only of ships, but also of radio-technical troops on land. This will create conditions for more successful use of our missiles.
