Just before Putin and Xi meet.
Falling Russian-Chinese trade is causing Moscow to worry ahead of the leaders' summit.
Reuters reports Reuters.
Russia has seen its trade with China fall and is seeking to reverse the trend ahead of the upcoming leaders' summit in the northern port city of Tianjin.
That's according to Reuters sources, the drop in trade from January to July 2025 was 8.1 percent, which has caused concern in Moscow.
Reasons for the drop in trade
Russia's oil imports to China, a drop in shipments of vehicles and electronics, and a natural correction after record trade levels in 2024.
Spheres of potential growth
Russian officials are looking at increased cooperation in agriculture, energy and transportation projects, particularly the Power of Siberia-2 pipeline.
Political Context
Putin is using the summit to strengthen the strategic partnership with China, although experts note that Beijing acts mostly in its own interests and remains the dominant player in the relationship.
The summit between Putin and Si Jinping will be another important step to bolster bilateral relations and Moscow's attempt to stabilize trade with its main economic partner.
