Turkey Reveals Kremlin's New Position On Peace With Ukraine

There have been important developments in recent months.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said there have been important shifts in Russia's position on the war in Ukraine over the past months.

This is reported by tgrthaber.com.

He said the sides first presented concrete positions during the third round of talks in Istanbul. They were later brought up for discussion during a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

"Then we saw the beginning of the end," Fidan noted.

He said Russia no longer insists on controlling the entire territory of the four Ukrainian regions. However, it is now talking about holding the front line at Zaporizhzhya and securing 25-30% of the territory of the Donetsk region for the Russian Federation.

"The fact that Moscow has agreed to guarantee these conditions with a security mechanism is impressive. It creates a basis for a future settlement, although at the same time it poses difficult challenges for both countries, especially Ukraine," he stressed.

At the same time, he believes that the strategic loss of part of Donetsk region complicates the defense of the rest of the region. At the same time, the system of international guarantees can balance the situation and provide space for further dialog.
