Officials' response.
Some Polish uząd (local authorities) do not accept Soviet-style birth certificates, although the Polish Interior Ministry has previously stated that there is no ban on this.
"Euroradio" asked the Warsaw Civil Registry Office whether they could still accept the "green book".
They replied that foreign documents can be entered into the register if they meet certain conditions: for example, it is confirmed that it was issued by an official body, is recognized in the home country and "does not raise doubts about its authenticity".
Polish officials specified that an official of the department can request an apostille for a document if there are doubts about its authenticity. They did not give any criteria for assessing the possible (non-)authenticity of documents.
The department emphasized that each case is considered individually.
