Ukrainian intelligence conducted a unique operation.
Ukraine's defense forces have hit a warship for the first time with FPV drones - the Russian corvette Buyan-M, which is a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles.
The drones have attacked boats and vessels, but not warships of this rank.
This happened in the Sea of Azov in the Gulf of Temryut on August 28. Fighters from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry made a note of it.
Ukrainian experts noted that the distance of the strike was more than 350 kilometers. And it was at such a range that both the control of the means of destruction and target designation were provided.
"Given that the attack was carried out by the "Ghosts" special unit, which methodically destroys enemy air defense assets in occupied Crimea, it is likely that the strike was carried out by RUBAKA and/or UJ-26 "Beaver" drones." As a result of the strike, as stated by the GSD, the ship's radar system was disabled and its side was hit.
At the same time, in addition to the historic achievement and sending the Kalibr carrier for repair, attention should be paid to the fact that this attack shows the helplessness of Russian ships. Because the video shows quite clearly that the Buyan-M is trying to actively maneuver, i.e. its crew is aware of the threat.
But its air defenses are silent. At the same time, the Buyan-M cannot complain about their limitations. After all, we are talking about the AK 630-M2 Duet rapid-fire artillery system. "It was made in the Russian Federation in the late 2000s by installing a Soviet AK-630M1-2 'Roy' with two six-barrel AO-18 cannons in a new 'fancy' body," experts write.
The plan is that this particular system should destroy not only drones - cruise missiles, helicopters and airplanes. However, the video does not show the reaction of the Duet complex.
"And this is quite important, because these are the main corvettes for the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla, and in general we are talking about seven such ships in these formations, as well as four more such corvettes in the Baltic Fleet. Also AK 630-M2 "Duet" installations are installed on the large landing ships "Ivan Gren" and "Pyotr Morgunov".
Finally, it is worth noting that as a result of the Ukrainian drone strike, the Russian corvette suffered damage to its radar, and we are talking about the MR-352 "Positiv" surveillance radar, without which it is "blind". For this radar is responsible for detecting both sea and air targets. And repairing such means is a rather long process," the experts said.
