This position was recently reiterated by Matteo Salvini. Giorgia Meloni is also against the deployment of Italian peacekeepers in Ukraine. But Antonio Tajani suggested sending military sappers to demine the Ukrainian territory. He believes this should be done after the shooting stops in Ukraine.

The debate in Italy over sending sappers to Ukraine is over the fact that they are military personnel. This may cause criticism from some Italian political forces.

It should be noted that in August this year, Giorgia Meloni proposed that European leaders provide Ukraine with NATO-inspired collective security guarantees after the war, but without membership in the Alliance.
