Russia Wants To "fill" Gasoline Shortages With Belarusian Fuel

Moscow has already started buying Belarusian oil products.

The Russian government has extended the ban on gasoline exports for September, effective from February 2025. For non-producers it will be in effect in October, writes "Belarusians and the market".

According to the government's Telegram channel, it introduces a new temporary ban on exports of motor gasoline. The restrictions will be in effect from September 1 to October 31, 2025 inclusive. In September, the ban will apply to all exporters, including direct producers of petroleum products, from October 1, restrictions for gasoline producers will be lifted.

"The decision is aimed at maintaining a stable situation in the domestic fuel market," the report emphasizes.

The ban is extended against the background of the loss of up to 17% of refining capacity as a result of attacks by long-range Ukrainian drones and the resulting fuel shortages in a number of Russian regions. Scheduled repairs of some refineries are also affecting the market.

The Russian government is considering the possibility of importing oil products from Belarus as one of the sources of closing the deficit.

The largest operator of these supplies is the European Trading Company, a subsidiary of the Belarusian Oil Company registered in Smolensk. Last year its sales volumes decreased by 6.6%, amounting to 17.7 billion Russian rubles. Today's crisis on the fuel market gives ETC a chance to improve its dynamics.
