It has become known how many Flamingos are already in service in Ukraine.
While the allies continue to discuss how to strengthen Ukraine's security, Kiev relies on its own developments.
Ukrainian company Fire Point Defense has unveiled its newest cruise missile Flamingo FP-5, which has already been tested and is being prepared for mass production, writes Politico.
Fast, powerful, easy to produce
The Flamingo's main feature is a range of up to 3,000 kilometers and a warhead weighing more than a ton. This means that the missile is capable of hitting any target on the European territory of Russia.
According to the company's general director and technical director Irina Terekh, the development took less than nine months - from the first drawings to successful tests in real combat conditions.
"We did not want to advertise this project, but the time has come. Flamingo can carry a warhead weighing 1,150 kilograms and travel distances beyond the reach of our other missiles. At the same time, its speed is higher than that of previous models," Terekh told Politico.
The first prototypes were pink
The unusual history of the missile's name and appearance deserves special attention. The first prototypes had a bright pink nose fairing - it was a kind of symbol about the role of women in production. Later, the color had to be changed to a more practical one because of camouflage requirements, but, as Terekh notes, "the female handwriting in these designs has been preserved."
The missile has already become a subject of discussion not only in the expert community, but also in the Kremlin. Russian propaganda is trying to present the Flamingo as a "copy of British designs," but the fact remains that Ukrainian engineers have created a weapon capable of changing the balance of power in record time.
As the missile undergoes combat tests, Moscow is increasingly trying to block any information about it. The West notes that the appearance of such weapons in Ukraine would seriously complicate dictator Putin's plans to prolong the war.
Flamingo could become a deterrent because it strikes not only physically but also psychologically, showing that Ukraine is capable of building strategic-level weapons on its own.
Hundreds of units are already in service
According to Politico, the missile is already ready for mass production: more than two hundred units - 211 pieces - have been produced so far. Given the relative simplicity of the design and the high speed of production, the number of Flamingos in the AFU's inventory is expected to increase.
