What is known about the refinery
The Novoshakhtinsk refinery is the only operating oil refinery in the Rostov region. It is one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in the south of Russia and is involved in providing the Russian army with fuel and lubricants.
The total volume of tanks at the plant exceeds 210 thousand cubic meters.
Russian media reported earlier that the plant was guarded by two Pantsir and one Tor air defense systems.
But they were unable to fully repel the attack, resulting in a large-scale fire at the plant, which is still ongoing.
