Aliyev Ordered To Prepare Azerbaijan For War
Ilham Aliyev

The statement was made against the backdrop of worsening relations with Russia.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said after signing a peace agreement with Armenia that the authorities are monitoring "sources" of new threats and building up military power to ensure security. The statement came amid the republic's worsening relations with Russia. "We must be ready for war at any moment, as the course of processes in the world is such that it is impossible to predict what will happen tomorrow. The guarantee of our security is ourselves, the state, the people and our Armed Forces. Therefore, whoever decides to strike Azerbaijan will regret it," Aliyev said at a meeting with residents of the town of Qalbajar, Adalet reports.

He noted that the republic has already strengthened the army on the Caspian Sea and other directions, as well as increased the number of special forces. In addition, Azerbaijan is receiving "the most modern drones, new artillery systems" and is waiting for the delivery of new combat aircraft, while the existing ones have been "fully modernized," Aliyev reminded. "We do not advise anyone to think about hostile actions against us... We have quite strong allies, and our position in international organizations is always recognized as fair... Unlike some other countries, we have not seized any foreign territory, have not carried out ethnic cleansing, have not destroyed a single town or village," Aliyev pointed out. He added that Azerbaijan does not want war and is in favor of peace, but must remain vigilant.

Russian authorities earlier threatened Azerbaijan through propagandists with a "special military operation" that could begin after the war in Ukraine is over. Host Vladimir Solovyov drew attention to the threat of NATO bases in the Caspian Sea region, hinting at the Caucasian republic's cooperation with Turkey, a member of the North Atlantic Alliance. "This is so dangerous that if considered from a geopolitical perspective, it may lead to such consequences that this may not be the last air defense system of our generation," he said.

Russian state propaganda has sharply raised the degree of bellicose rhetoric against Azerbaijan amid reports that the republic may lift a moratorium on arms supplies to Ukraine. They appeared after Russia hit the facilities of the state-owned oil and gas company SOCAR in Odessa Region, seriously injuring four people. Also, Azerbaijan was threatened with war by z-patriots because of Aliyev's advice to Ukraine "never to surrender" and "not to agree to occupation".
