The EU and the US should use sanctions and duties to pressure Moscow.
European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas said Russia does not want peace and accused Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin of not keeping any promises, writes The Guardian.
Callas said Putin is "just laughing - not stopping the killing, but on the contrary, intensifying the bombing of Ukraine."
"You see that Europeans, Ukrainians, Americans want peace and are making every diplomatic effort to achieve it, whereas Russia is just stalling and it is obvious that Russia does not want peace," she emphasized.
She also called on the EU and the US to strengthen sanctions and duties against Russia.
"It is clear that Putin has not fulfilled any of the promises he has been given so far and we should treat this accordingly, but [we] also [should] make every effort to force him to the negotiating table," the EU high representative said.
She emphasized that the EU has various tools to do so.
""The Americans have leverage in the form of sanctions or duties to force Russia to sit down at the negotiating table. We are working on the 19th package of sanctions from the European side to really put pressure on Russia, which is the aggressor in this situation," she said.
Callas also believes Putin got "what he wanted" from the summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska, getting not only a picture with the U.S. president, but "much more than that - a warm welcome in America."
"And then he also wanted sanctions not to be imposed, which he also achieved. So I think now his interest has waned because he achieved what he wanted from this meeting," Callas added.
