Trump Has Decided To Patrol The Streets Of Washington With Police And Military Personnel

As part of the anti-crime campaign.

U.S. President Donald Trump intends to join law enforcement and military personnel patrolling the streets of Washington, D.C., on Thursday evening, August 21, as part of an "anti-crime" campaign.

It was reported by CNN.

"I intend to go out tonight, I think, with the police and certainly with the military," the president told radio host Todd Starnes.

A senior White House official told the publication that details of the president's announced action were still being finalized.

Trump's plan came a day after Vice President J.D. Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth hosted a luncheon for the Shake Shack restaurant chain at the capital's Grand Central Station.

The White House thanked the National Guard troops stationed in Washington for patrolling the city to reduce crime.

Many of the National Guardsmen at the luncheon said they came from South Carolina, one of six states where Trump won the presidential election. That state has already sent or plans to send military personnel to Washington.

There are also plans to deploy military personnel from West Virginia, Ohio, Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee to keep order in the American capital.

Crime Fighting in Washington

On Aug. 11, Trump declared a "public safety emergency" in Washington and the District of Columbia. The head of state is bringing in the National Guard to help "restore law and order" and has promised to clear the capital from "slums."

On August 19, Republican governors from six states deployed more than 1,100 additional National Guard troops to Washington. The decision was made to support Trump's announced plan to "fight violent crime."
