Lavrov Disavowed All Agreements Between Trump And Putin

Russian Foreign Minister sets new conditions.

Russia rejects the presence of Western peacekeepers in Ukraine, urges Kiev to return to the agreements reached at the talks in Istanbul in 2022. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on August 21 at a joint press conference after a meeting with his Indian counterpart Subramanyam Jaishankar. Lavrov also named a condition for Vladimir Putin's meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, vot-tak.tv reported.

The Russian foreign minister accused Kiev and European partners of trying to exclude the Kremlin from security guarantees for Ukraine. In addition, Lavrov insisted, any such guarantees should be given only on the condition that Ukraine maintains its neutral and non-aligned status.

"Everything else, everything else, everything unilateral - these are, of course, futile ventures," he said.

Lavrov recalled that Russia was one of the parties to the guarantees for Ukraine in the arrangements discussed at the Istanbul talks in the spring of 2022. He stressed that these conditions were reached on Kiev's initiative.

The possible introduction of European peacekeepers into the conflict zone as part of its settlement, the head of the Russian diplomatic department also criticized. He called such a proposal a "foreign intervention" in Ukraine.

"This would be absolutely unacceptable for Russia and for all sensible political forces in Europe," Lavrov said.

At the same time, he allowed a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky. Lavrov called the latter "the so-called Ukrainian leader." According to the Russian foreign minister, face-to-face talks between the leaders of the two countries can take place only after all the issues have been worked out. He did not specify what exactly we are talking about.
