To protect Ukraine's logistics center.
The Netherlands is moving two Patriot surface-to-air missile systems and about 300 military personnel to Poland to protect the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) logistics center.
The Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans announced this, according to the press service of the Dutch Ministry of Defense.
This is an integrated battery of three components: two Patriots, a NASAMS air defense system and counter-drone capabilities. Together with its partners, the Netherlands will provide an echeloned air defense against possible threats from ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as from planes, helicopters and drones.
"Defense provides high-tech capabilities. They are scarce, but the Netherlands is capable of providing them. This mission serves three purposes: defense of NATO territory, deterrence of Russian aggression and unconditional support for Ukraine. This is how we keep the Russian threat as far away as possible," Brekelmans said.
NSATU coordinates and provides training for the Ukrainian military and military aid deliveries.
The agency said the deployed air defenses will allow these logistical operations to be carried out safely and ensure that the weapons transferred by the allies reach their destination.
