Scientists have recorded seismic activity that is unique in its strength.
Five volcanoes - Kliuchevskoi, Shiveluch, Karymsky, Bezymyanny and Kambalny - have become active in Kamchatka. On August 2, the Kliuchevskoi volcano threw ash to a height of up to nine kilometers, the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported.
Rescuers advise local residents and guests of the region "to refrain from travel and hiking in the vicinity of these volcanoes within a radius of 10 kilometers from their summit."
A magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean near Kamchatka on July 30. It was the strongest earthquake in the Kamchatka seismofocal zone in the entire history of observations.
