NYT: Trump Refused To Hold A Meeting With Putin And Zelensky In Moscow

European leaders were shocked by Putin's proposal to hold the meeting in the Russian capital.

U.S. President Donald Trump "politely declined" Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's request to hold the next trilateral meeting - with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky - in Moscow.

According to New York Times, citing a European diplomat.

According to the publication, the issue of a possible meeting in Moscow was discussed during a phone call between Trump and Putin on Monday.

NYT notes that the president and the dictator discussed both a bilateral meeting between Putin and Zelensky and a trilateral meeting involving Trump.

A high-ranking European diplomat told the newspaper that Putin suggested Moscow as the venue for the meeting.

"European leaders were intimidated by such a scenario, but Trump politely refused Putin, the diplomat said," the interlocutor told the newspaper.

The AFP news agency earlier reported that Putin had offered to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow during his conversation with Trump.
