Radovan Višković headed the government of Republika Srpska since 2018.
Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, (an administrative entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina) Radovan Višković announced his resignation and said a new cabinet would be formed in the region, Reuters writes.
"I will continue to hold important positions, I will remain in the SNSD (Union of Independent Social Democrats) party until we achieve our ultimate goal, the creation of the state of Republika Srpska," the politician said.
Višković has headed the Republika Srpska government since 2018.
On August 6, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Central Election Committee revoked the mandate of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and decided to hold early elections there. The decision was made unanimously. An appeal by Dodik's lawyers against the decision to revoke the mandate was rejected by the court.
In late February, the court sentenced Dodik to a year in prison and banned him from holding public office for six years in a case of non-compliance with the decisions of the supreme representative overseeing the Dayton Accords. The second defendant in the case was the head of Republika Srpska's Official Gazette, Milos Lukic, who was exonerated by the court.
According to the prosecution's conclusion, Dodik and Lukic continued to legislate in defiance of the international representative's order. The Bosnia and Herzegovina court later replaced Dodik's real sentence with a fine.
