Because of the UAV strike.
Rosneft's Syzran refinery in the Samara region halted oil refining after an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack on August 15, Reuters reported, citing industry sources.
The agency's sources said the raid damaged one of the two AVT-6 primary refining units, which accounts for 70% of the refinery's capacity (17,100 tons per day)
The repairs will continue until at least the end of this month, Reuters' sources said. They said the refinery may try to start up a second unit (AVT-5) with a capacity of 7.1 thousand tons per day.
The 8.5 million-ton-per-year Syzran refinery became the fourth major refinery to halt production due to drone raids.
On August 2, Rosneft's Novokuibyshevsk refinery completely stopped producing fuel; on August 11, the Saratov refinery stopped work; on August 15, it became known that Lukoil's Volgograd refinery, the largest in southern Russia and one of the top 10 in the country, suspended oil reception.
In addition, since August 2, half of its capacity has been shut down by the Ryazan refinery, Rosneft's largest and supplying fuel to the Moscow region, among others. The Slavyansk refinery and Afip refinery were also attacked by UAVs.
The total capacity of the completely shut down refineries, according to The Moscow Times, is 38.3 million tons, which is 14% of Russia's total refining capacity last year (267 million tons, according to Reuters calculations).
