Trump Called For "playing To Win" In The Fight Against Hamas

The U.S. President again recalled his successes in conflict resolution.

The return of all remaining Israeli hostages is only possible once the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas is destroyed, US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social.

"The sooner this happens, the better the chances of success. Remember, I was the one who negotiated and released hundreds of hostages that were sent to Israel (and America!). I was the one who ended 6 wars in just 6 months. I was the one who DESTROYED Iran's nuclear capabilities. Play to WIN or don't play at all!" - the American leader wrote.

After two ceasefires and the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, 56 people remain in Hamas captivity, with 36 of them dead.

The U.S. mediated the talks between Hamas and Israel. They presented a 60-day truce proposal that included releasing ten living Israeli hostages and handing over the bodies of 18 more on the first and seventh days of the cease-fire in exchange for more than 120 Palestinian prisoners. The deal also called for a halt to Israeli offensive activity and troop movements into the southern Gaza Strip after the exchanges. In 60 days, the sides were supposed to agree on a complete ceasefire.

But peace talks between the sides have stalled. Israel believes Hamas shows no desire for a truce and the group is demanding an improvement in the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The Jerusalem Post, citing a source involved in the talks, wrote that Israel and the U.S. could take months to prepare a new deal with the Palestinian terror group.

At the end of the day, Israel decided in early August to occupy Gaza City, which could be the first step in taking full control of the exclave, Axios wrote. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu cited "complete disarmament of Hamas," "return of all hostages," "complete demilitarization of the Strip," "Israeli control of security in the Gaza Strip," and "establishment of an alternative civilian government" among the "key principles" for ending the conflict and ensuring Israel's security. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel has no intention of annexing the Gaza Strip.
