Navarro said New Delhi is profiting from the US.
Peter Navarro, Peter Navarro, Donald Trump's adviser on trade and manufacturing and one of the authors of his tariff policy, lashed out at India, accusing it of providing hard currency to Russia. Promoting his trade agenda, Navarro said India is both profiting from the US and helping Russia finance the war in Ukraine.
"Here's how India-Russia oil math works," Navarro wrote in a column in the Financial Times. - American consumers buy Indian goods. India uses those dollars to buy discounted Russian oil. That oil is refined and resold around the world by Indian bargainers in alliance with silent Russian partners - while Russia pockets hard currency to finance its war machine in Ukraine."
In essence, India acts as a "global clearinghouse for Russian oil," turning the crude, which is embargoed in the United States and Europe, into a high-value export commodity and providing Moscow with the "dollars it needs." More than 300,000 soldiers and civilians have died in Ukraine, NATO's eastern flank is increasingly vulnerable, with the West "footing the bill for [Russian] oil laundering by India," Navarro is outraged.
