Ukraine's president has secured the support of European leaders.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's scheduled visit to the White House on Monday, August 18, and his meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump could be a turning point.
According to Bloomberg.
The agency notes that on the eve of the talks in Washington, European leaders issued a joint statement in which they emphasized the inadmissibility of changing international borders by force.
The statement came amid media reports that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, during a summit in Alaska, demanded to give Russia all of Donbass in exchange for allegedly agreeing to stop hostilities. The Ukrainian president, commenting on these statements, rejected the possibility of surrendering Ukrainian territories.
According to the agency, European leaders fear that Trump may pressure Zelensky to push Ukraine to make territorial concessions.
As Bloomberg notes, the fate of Trump's efforts to end hostilities will soon be tested as Zelensky must respond to the U.S. president's shifting demands and mixed signals following the U.S.-Russian summit in Alaska.
