A high-ranking Russian commander is seriously wounded.
On the night of August 17, the Russian Armed Forces suffered serious losses in Kursk Region. An unnamed high-ranking officer of the Russian Armed Forces with the rank of general was hit. This was reported by the Russian resource "Northern Channel", associated with the Russian Armed Forces, reports Dialog.UA.
The officer's identity is concealed, as well as his position. "The Russian army lost another general tonight in the Kursk region. He is alive, but in serious condition: traumatic amputation of an arm and part of a leg. We are waiting for details. We hope that the officials will not try to hide this information as they did with Gudkov. All necessary medical assistance is being provided to the victim," the channel wrote.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army has suffered unprecedented losses among high-ranking officers. According to Western analysts, the deaths of more than two dozen Russian generals have been confirmed for 2025, which is an exceptional case in modern military practice. By comparison, during the Second Chechen War, Russia lost 10 generals in nearly a decade of fighting.
Major General Mikhail Gudkov, deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, who was eliminated by a Ukrainian missile strike in the Kursk region on July 2, 2025, is among those killed.
Major General Sergei Ilyin, commander of the 155th Marine Brigade, known for involvement in war crimes in Bucha and Irpen, also died. His death also occurred as a result of a Ukrainian strike in the Kursk region.
Such a number of losses among the Russian army's top commanders is an exceptional case in modern military practice.
Analysts note that this indicates a high level of training and effectiveness of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, as well as serious problems in the organization and security of the Russian Armed Forces.
