Putin's Failure Near Pokrovskoye: The AFU General Staff Confirmed The Elimination Of The Russian Breakthrough

Ukrainian defenders have liberated a number of settlements in Donbass.

The AFU General Staff confirmed the significant success of Ukrainian units in the Donetsk direction. An attempt by Russian troops to break through near Pokrovsk ended in failure. The details were published on the morning of August 17 on the official channel of the Ukrainian military department.

From August 4 to 16, the forces of the National Guard and the AFU, which includes fighters of the 1st Corps of the NSU Azov, conducted a large-scale operation and liberated several settlements in the Donetsk region. Gruzske, Rubizhne, Novovodyanoye, Petrovka, Veseloye and Zolotoy Kolodets returned under Ukrainian control.

According to the General Staff, the losses of Russian troops during this period were colossal. 910 occupants were eliminated, another 335 were wounded, and 37 were captured. In addition, a significant part of the enemy's equipment was destroyed: eight tanks, six armored vehicles, more than a hundred cars and motorcycles, one multiple rocket launcher, eighteen artillery pieces and ninety-one drones of different models.

Operations in the area of Dobropillya continue, there are stabilization measures. According to the General Staff, units of the 19th Army Corps of the AFU captured six Russian military personnel just in the last 24 hours. During the week, Ukrainian paratroopers of the 7th Corps together with other forces cleared Pokrovsk of the remaining enemy sabotage groups.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andrey Kovalenko also reported the success of the Defense Forces in the Pokrovsk direction.

"The Russian attempt to break through and gain a foothold in Donbass has been finally nullified by the forces of our army," he wrote. There is reason to believe that the breakthrough near Pokrovskoye was carried out by the Russian army for propaganda purposes before the summit in Alaska. The occupants actually drove themselves into an encirclement by their suicidal entry into the rear of the Defense Forces. And all this so that the dictator of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin could boast of his "successes" at the front to the President of the United States. The plan has completely failed.
