The key task for the West now is to remain united in the face of the Kremlin's actions.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote in social network X that the game for the future of Ukraine, security of Poland and the whole Europe has entered a decisive phase. The prime minister said that the current events confirm that Russia recognizes only the language of force, and Vladimir Putin has once again demonstrated his ruthlessness and political cunning, Polskie Radio reported.

August 16, European leaders held two videoconferences following the U.S.-Russia summit in Anchorage, Alaska. An official statement was issued afterward. Its main point was the security and sovereignty of Ukraine.

For her part, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said strong security guarantees for that country and Europe are "essential" in any peace agreement ending the war in Ukraine.

"The European Union is working closely with President Vladimir Zelensky and the United States to achieve a just and lasting peace. Credible guarantees that will protect the core security interests of Ukraine and Europe are key," von der Leyen wrote on social media X.

"Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine" was the main message of the statement released by European leaders after the US-Russian summit in Alaska.
