The US will not send troops to Ukraine as part of the guarantees
American President Donald Trump has told European leaders that he is willing to provide Ukraine with security guarantees from the US. Such rhetoric was a palpable shift in Trump's position on the U.S. role in ending the war against Ukraine. Trump looked "tired and irritated with Putin" after the talks and said he had worked nearly 24 hours without a break.
What Trump told European leaders
In a The Wall Street Journal says Trump called European leaders and said: despite signals of "willingness to dialog," Putin intends to continue the war.
According to the journalists' interlocutors, Trump looked "tired and irritated with Putin." The American president allegedly worked without a break for almost 24 hours.
Security guarantees similar to NATO's Article 5
Trump discussed with European leaders the initiative of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to provide Ukraine with security guarantees that would be similar to NATO's Article 5.
"Indeed, Kiev has long sought security guarantees from Washington, but the White House has never yet given any guarantees," the journalists noted.
The issue is military and financial support for Ukraine from the West led by the United States.
Trump was annoyed with Putin
The Americans, however, are not ready to send their troops to Ukraine to provide security.
"The guarantees Trump spoke of include bilateral commitments as well as US participation in coalition support for Ukraine," the journalists quoted European officials as saying.
The participants themselves do not yet know whether this means engaging a direct military component.
The journalists also stressed that according to their reports, Trump is seeking to organize a trilateral meeting in the near future that would include him, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and the head of the occupying country Russia, Vladimir Putin.
