"Putin Gave Himself Away With Just One Sentence."

It's not just boilerplate wording.

Columnist BILD Philipp Pyatov commented on one of Putin's remarks at the press conference after the Alaska summit.

- Russian dictator Vladimir Putin made every effort to look polite, emphasize his readiness for peace and praise the U.S. president. But with just one sentence, he showed that he has no interest in ending his war against Ukraine.

Putin did use every possible technique: at the press conference after the summit, he read out every word from a sheet, thanked the host of the meeting Donald Trump several times, and even used the banned word "war" in the context of Ukraine - although in Russia you can only say "special military operation."

When he spoke about the possible development of Russian-American relations, he literally marveled. What potential the two countries have if they cooperate! He even repeated Trump's favorite phrase: if Trump were president in 2022, there would be no war.

The old KGB agent knows how to impress. But with one sentence he made it clear that his position on the war against Ukraine has not changed one iota.

He said, "I have said many times that for Russia the events in Ukraine are linked to fundamental threats to our national security. We are convinced that in order for a Ukrainian settlement to be sustainable and long-term, all the root causes of the crisis, which we have spoken about repeatedly, must be addressed."

This is not just boilerplate language. It is an admission that Putin still believes Ukraine must be defeated, subjugated, and completely rebuilt.

What does Putin consider the "root causes" of the war? That is, why did he invade Ukraine in February 2022? Putin has claimed that Ukraine is ruled by a Nazi regime that is planning an attack on Russia with Western support. His goals for the war remain unchanged: the Ukrainian government must be overthrown and the armed forces defeated.

Since there has never been a Nazi regime in Ukraine and the country has never planned an attack on Russia, it is clear that Putin is simply annoyed that Ukrainians want to live in freedom and democracy rather than unconditionally obey him.
