Azerbaijan Refused To Participate In The Meeting Of CIS Foreign Ministers

The meeting was held in St. Petersburg.

Azerbaijan did not take part in the meeting of the Council of Interior Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was held on August 12 in St. Petersburg. This was reported on the official portal of the CIS.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The sides discussed a number of "topical issues", in particular, combating illegal migration, cooperation in the field of road safety, development of forensic medical examination and "measures to neutralize destructive forces that can destabilize the socio-political situation in the CIS countries".

Azerbaijan's absence at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was reported in St. Petersburg. The situation escalated after an incident in December 2024, when Russian air defense forces shot down a passenger plane of the Azerbaijani airline AZAL. This was followed by attacks on the Azerbaijani diaspora in Russia.
