Alaskans To Protest Over Putin's Visit

The event will be held under the slogan "Alaska with Ukraine".

Protests are being prepared in Alaska's largest city, Anchorage, over a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The political organization Stand Up Alaska has scheduled the action for Thursday, August 14, the day before the summit, writes The Moscow Times.

The event will be held under the slogan "Alaska with Ukraine." "With the governor's endorsement, President Donald Trump invited Vladimir Putin. We are gathering to send a clear message to both Trump and Putin: Alaska is firmly against authoritarianism," a statement on the organizers' website reads.

The Stand Up Alaska Facebook page makes a direct call for locals to take to the streets and join the action: "Join us in Anchorage, Alaska to protest the presence of an international war criminal (Vladimir Putin. - note)."

Donald Trump previously announced that his face-to-face meeting with Putin would take place on August 15 in Alaska. The Russian ruler's aide Yuri Ushakov soon confirmed the date and place of the summit. According to the White House, the meeting with the US president was requested personally by Vladimir Putin during talks with Trump's special envoy Steve Whitkoff.
