GUR Drones Attacked Russia's Only Plant Producing Helium For Missiles

On Monday, August 11, drones of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry struck the Orenburg Helium Plant in the city of Orenburg, Russia.

It is noted that this is Russia's only enterprise that produces a critical component for missile production, in the space and aviation industries.

The interlocutor said the drone overflights could be observed by local residents, who also reported a series of explosions near the plant. At around 8 p.m., the local authorities decided to close off a section of the M-5 Ural federal highway near the villages of Perevolotskoye and Kholodnye Klyuchi (which is where the Defense Ministry's GUR target is located).

The Orenburg Helium Plant is the only helium production facility in Russia and one of the largest in Europe, with an annual capacity of about 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Helium is widely used in rocket production, space industry and aviation industry.

It is noted that the target attacked by military intelligence is directly involved in Russia's war against Ukraine and is one of the key facilities of the Russian military-industrial complex.
