Nordic And Baltic Leaders Warned Against Peace Agreements Without Kiev

The G8 backed Trump's peace initiative with conditions.

The leaders of the eight Nordic and Baltic countries issued a joint statement in which they warned against peace talks with Russia unless Ukraine's position and Europe's security interests are taken into account.

"We unwaveringly support Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity in the conditions of Russia's illegal and aggressive war," the document reads.

The participants in the format also praised US President Donald Trump's initiative aimed at ending the war and creating conditions for a peaceful resolution of the conflict with Russia Restrictive measures against Russia will remain in force. Peace can only be achieved through resolute diplomacy, sustained support for Ukraine and constant pressure on the Russian Federation to stop its illegal aggression," the statement emphasized.

The leaders noted that international borders cannot be changed by force, and negotiations are possible only with a complete ceasefire. President Volodymyr Zelensky, they said, made it clear: Ukraine is ready for dialog only if its sovereignty is respected. "No decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine, no decisions on Europe without Europe," they quoted Kiev's position as saying.

The statement ends by saying that the Nordic-Baltic G8 countries remain united in their support for Ukraine and are ready to defend the region's security. The format includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
