So far, Moscow has only simulated peace talks.
Ukraine wants to end its war with Russia this year. But Moscow is only simulating peace talks so far.
As RBC-Ukraine reports, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga said this in an interview with Yle.
The foreign minister supported US President Donald Trump's promise to impose tough restrictions against Russia and countries trading with it already in the coming days.
Sibiga believes that Trump is the only one whom Russian dictator Putin fears. At the same time, he said, the new sanctions against Russia are bringing peace closer.
The minister also noted that now all countries in the world are watching whether the American leader will fulfill his promises.
- The sanctions should be devastating for the Russian economy. They should prevent Russia from fueling its war machine and trading with third countries," he emphasized.
Sibiga noted that achieving peace this year remains a goal for Ukraine, even though Russia is mimicking peace talks to buy time and occupy new territories. At the same time, ending the war is not only in Ukraine's interest.
- Ukraine is now the guarantor of security. The way the war ends will affect the security of Europe and other regions. This must be understood, and we must work together to force Russia to make peace," he added.
