Iran's supreme leader disappeared after Israeli strikes.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has not appeared in public for 25 days, German newspaper Bild writes.
According to the publication, Ali Khamenei took refuge in a bunker back on June 13, shortly after Israel attacked Iran. From that hideout, he recorded two video messages to the nation. There have been no further signs of life from him in the past 25 days.
Experts believe that he has not left his hideout, fearing for his safety.
Rumors are circulating in Iran about the Ayatollah's serious illness and even his death, but there is no confirmation of this, the publication points out.
Iranian-German political scientist Ali Fatollah Nejad believes that the 12-day war will be the beginning of a "post-Khamenei era" in Iran. According to him, the search for Khamenei's successor has already begun. The supreme leader will, at best, remain a symbolic figure.
"He no longer has the physical or psychological capacity to fulfill his duties - and this has been clear since the war began," Fatollah-Nejad told Bild.
