"They sent some historian."

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has criticized Russia's approach to peace talks with Ukraine. According to him, instead of real dialog, the head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky is engaged in "lectures on history."

This is reported by Fox News.

Rutte said that the most important thing now is to make Russia sit down at the negotiating table and talk about the realities of the present, not about events of the distant past.

"We don't need to send some historian who tells us what happened in 1700 some year. We need meaningful talks about the present," he emphasized.

Rutte stressed that Ukrainians want a ceasefire and peace as soon as possible, and for that the West should increase pressure on Moscow - in particular, with the help of sanctions and other leverage.

At the same time, he thanked former US President Donald Trump for "moving the dialogue with Vladimir Putin forward" and encouraging European allies to invest more in collective defense within NATO.

"Trump was the only one who could do it. Thanks to him, the conversation with the Russians has started. Now the main thing is to continue it so that it has a real result," Rutte said.
