New U.S. Missile Could Break China's Taiwan Invasion Scenario

U.S. weapons pose a serious problem for the Chinese navy.

The confrontation between the US and China is escalating in the Pacific region. Washington and allies continue to build up their military presence.

The Telegraph reports that.

The US is focusing on the latest weapons technology that could deter a possible invasion of Taiwan by Beijing.

The focus is on the next-generation Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), which was recently successfully tested in Australia.

According to Lockheed Martin, the missile hit a target at a range of more than 300 km, 100 km beyond the current range of older Atacms.

The PrSM can be launched from US HIMARS and British MLRS.

The new missiles have increased speed (up to 4,000 km/h), accuracy and resistance to radio-electronic effects.

Two PrSM missiles can be launched simultaneously from one launch complex, which significantly increases the density of fire.

"This is a weapon that poses a serious problem for the Chinese navy: it is difficult to detect and even harder to destroy," said Brad Bowman, a senior analyst at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

The new system could turn into a deterrent that could delay or even derail Beijing's military plans, he said.

China is speeding up preparations for an invasion

Beijing, for its part, is also stepping up development. Satellite images surfaced earlier this year showing the construction of landing barges for a potential landing on Taiwan's coast.

PRC President Si Jinping has repeatedly said "reunification" with the island is inevitable, while the U.S. military has warned that an invasion could happen in the coming years.

A failure by the PRC in a forceful scenario could shake the stability of the Chinese regime itself.

Taiwan has now received 11 HIMARS systems under previous defense contracts. Additional missiles are scheduled for delivery in 2026.

If PrSM is deployed in Taiwan, as well as Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia, the Chinese navy would face unprecedented risk should an invasion begin.

American Himars

Reminder that HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) is a high-mobility rocket artillery system developed by the American company Lockheed Martin.

It uses high-precision missiles such as the GMLRS, capable of hitting targets at distances of up to 80 km, as well as ATACMS missiles, which can destroy objects at distances of up to 300 km.

The HIMARS system has proven its effectiveness on the battlefield, particularly during the fighting in Ukraine....
