Zelensky Signed A Number Of Laws On Military Service And Military Training

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has signed a number of laws voted on by people's deputies in the Verkhovna Rada in July. Among these laws are the restoration of officer training for medical students and the voluntary right for Ukrainians aged 60+ to sign contracts for military service, UNIAN reports.

According to the Verkhovna Rada website, the relevant laws were returned to parliament with the Ukrainian president's signature today, July 29.

In particular, Zelensky signed the law that provides for the restoration of mandatory officer training This law provides for the establishment of mandatory military training under the medical reserve officer training program for Ukrainian citizens who receive higher education in medical and pharmaceutical specialties, are fit for military service for health reasons and have passed professional and psychological selection.

In addition, the Ukrainian president signed a law that gives individuals aged 60+ the right to voluntarily sign a contract for military service. This creates an opportunity for experienced specialists to help in non-combat and specialized positions.

This law "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Military Duty and Military Service" regarding the military service under contract by persons who have reached the age limit for military service" (registration number 13229) was passed in Parliament on July 16, 2025.

At the same time, Zielenski signed the law that provides for the payment of additional remuneration to the instructors and teaching staff of higher military educational institutions and their structural subdivisions (registration number 13320). This additional remuneration will range from 15,000 to 30,000 hryvnyas, taking into account their level of training (qualification).
