Trump Threatened To "wipe Out" Iran's Nuclear Facilities
Donald Trump

The US president said Iran was sending "unpleasant signals".

The US will immediately destroy Iranian nuclear facilities if Tehran tries to restart them. President Donald Trump said this on Monday during talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland.

Trump said Iran was sending "unpleasant signals" and any attempt by its authorities to restart its nuclear program would be immediately thwarted. "We destroyed their nuclear capability. They can start again. If they do, we'll wipe it out faster than you can wag your finger <...> They don't need to do that. They say things they don't need to say," Trump told reporters.

July 29 Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran was fully aware of the consequences of "U.S.-Israeli aggression," a joint June military operation by the two countries that is estimated to have disabled three major uranium enrichment facilities and killed key Iranian physical scientists. Araghchi warned that any repetition of such actions would entail a strong response.

"If aggression is repeated, we will not hesitate to respond in a more decisive manner and in a way that cannot be concealed," the minister wrote in X, without elaborating. Tehran continues to maintain that its nuclear program is for purely civilian purposes.

Iran's "12-day war" with Israel, joined by US bombers at the end of the conflict, will take at least one to two years to develop a full-fledged nuclear weapon, provided its production can be concealed to prevent a crushing Israeli attack. This was reported by The Washington Post's international columnist David Ignatius, citing knowledgeable Israeli and U.S. sources.

One of WaPo's interlocutors said the Israeli and U.S. attacks were "a serious blow to [Iran's] human capital," as the country's top first-, second- and even third-tier nuclear scientists were killed. Israel, in turn, expects this to discourage young Iranian professionals from getting involved in the nuclear program. Other military developments have also come under attack, including a project to develop an electromagnetic weapon capable of disabling Israel's power grid, Ignatius noted.
