The products are going overseas.
Private farmers increased potato exports despite the decline in the harvest. But the supply of flowers abroad has collapsed. And what goods have left the export list for good?
We don't know what is happening with the export of agricultural products - the information comes only from the words of officials, as after the imposition of Western sanctions Belstat stopped publishing statistics, writes the site "Belarusians and the market".
The more interesting is to study the remaining open data on a small sector of the Belarusian economy - farms. Private farmers produce only 3% of agricultural products in the country, and 15% of crop production. But the trends occurring here can hint at the general situation in the economy. You can learn about the dynamics in the export of individual farm goods from the thematic compilation of Belstat.
First of all, the export of potatoes increased in 2024 - 106 tons were sent to other countries. This is 34% more than a year earlier. Farmers' deliveries abroad have increased against the background of a reduced harvest - 175 thousand tons less potatoes were harvested during the year compared to the previous year.
Fruit exports, except for apples and pears, have also significantly increased - they were delivered abroad 1.5 thousand tons, a third more than the volume of the previous year. Apples and pears are still the main volume of fruits sold (16 thousand tons), but their supplies are decreasing.
Also, in recent years, private companies have been intensively increasing sales abroad of frozen vegetables - in 2024 the volume reached 15.9 thousand tons, +33% compared to the previous year. The export of seasonings also showed a sharp increase - by 60% to 950 tons.
At the same time, a number of products abroad began to supply less. For example, 143 tons of tomatoes were exported, which is twice less than the previous volumes. Sales of flowers fell sharply - they were shipped only 79 tons, although a year earlier there were 220 tons.
Total collapse in recent years occurred in lumber and wood products. For the former, since 2022, shipments have collapsed almost three times - from 1.1 thousand to 400 tons. And for the latter, exports have practically stopped: if in 2021 it was 2.4 thousand tons, now it is only 9 tons.
