American President Donald Trump gave the Kremlin an ultimatum: if a "fair" agreement on Ukraine is not reached within 50 days, the United States will impose secondary sanctions. The countdown for Russia began on July 14.

Trump's threat
On July 14, the American president expressed his frustration with the Kremlin and his conversations with Vladimir Putin. According to him, the conversations did not bring positive results on the issue of ending the war.
That is why Trump decided to go for an ultimatum and stated the following:
- We are very, very unhappy with them (Russia. - Ed.). And if we don't reach an agreement within 50 days, we will impose very strict tariffs, about 100%. You call them secondary tariffs (tariffs against Russia's trading partners. - Ed.).
That is, if Russia fails to meet the deadline, it and the countries that help it will face duties of 100%.
In addition, he noted that Ukraine will soon receive billions of dollars worth of weapons.
- These are billions of dollars worth of military equipment that will be purchased from the United States, transferred to NATO and quickly delivered to the battlefield," he said. Trump added that the packages would include 17 Patriot air defense systems that will be shipped "in the coming days."
The White House chief expressed hope that sanctions measures could be avoided. However, he immediately added that the US was ready to act tough.
When asked why Trump gave Putin so much time, he said the customs tariffs could come before that deadline.
"I don't think 50 days is a very long time, and it could come sooner...," the US president said.
When the 50 days expire
If the countdown went from the day of Trump's announcement, July 14, in which case the 50 days would expire on September 2.
