Trump's U-turn Toward Kiev: Mystery Of Fateful Phone Call Revealed

On July 4, Kellogg received a call from Poland.

Amid one of the most extensive shelling of Kiev since the war began, an initiative by Keith Kellogg, an adviser to Donald Trump, has begun a U-turn in U.S. policy toward Ukraine, writes The Telegraph.

On July 4, Kellogg received a phone call from Poland. It was Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski. After the phone call, General Kellogg called on Trump to resume supplying Ukraine with anti-aircraft munitions. During the night, Russian missiles and drones had damaged the Polish consulate in Kiev, an event that marked a turning point in the White House's attitude toward Ukraine.

Shortly after his conversation with Kellogg, Trump personally ordered the Pentagon to unlock the frozen Patriot systems, and to contact Defense Secretary Pete Gegseth. It was he who suspended military aid to Ukraine without White House approval, a move that drew criticism even among Trump allies such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

In a conversation with President Vladimir Zelensky the same day, Trump promised to provide Ukraine with air defense support. The signal was a watershed - seen in Washington as a recognition of the need for a stronger US role in the conflict to reach a peace agreement.

In the space of nine days, Trump, backed by NATO allies, announced a new $10 billion aid package. Facilitated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the arrangements included the purchase and transfer of new Patriot systems to Ukraine, some of which were paid for by Germany and Norway.

Interestingly, a shipment of systems previously destined for Switzerland was diverted for this purpose. Bern agreed to the postponement of its own order in favor of Ukraine.
