The businessman won't settle down.
Investors would like Ilon Musk, who has badly damaged the image of his own businesses with his trip to the White House, to rebuild them. But the entrepreneur will not rest, and the companies he created are now forced to warn investors about the political risks associated with Musk.
Mask previously served as a senior adviser to President Donald Trump "in connection with the Department of Government Efficiency and may in the future hold similar positions and devote significant time and effort to them," according to a proposal prepared for investors to buy shares in the space company SpaceX. The document was seen by Bloomberg. This is not the first time SpaceX has conducted a private placement, but this is the first time Musk's possible involvement in politics has been mentioned among "risk factors" in such documents, people familiar with their contents told the agency.
The new round of fundraising values SpaceX at about $400 billion; with that capitalization, it could be considered the most expensive non-public company in the world. Investors are invited to buy its shares at $212 apiece. In December 2024, the company sold them at $185, resulting in a valuation of $350 billion.
But Musk's conflict with President Trump, which has escalated into the public space with insults and threats, could affect SpaceX's business. Trump in early June threatened to cancel SpaceX's government contracts, in response to which Musk announced the decommissioning of Crew Dragon, a reusable manned spacecraft built by the company. It is now the only one in the U.S. that regularly carries astronauts into orbit.
