Germany Supported Poland's Efforts To Counter Illegal Migration From Belarus

The border is now guarded by 11,000 border guards.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt supported Warsaw's efforts to counter illegal migration across the border with Belarus, according to a report by the Polish Border Guard.

On July 21, Dobrindt met with Polish Interior and Administration Minister Tomasz Siemoniak at the Polovce border crossing (on the Belarusian side Peschatka).

The heads of the agencies emphasized "the importance of coordinating the actions of EU member states in response to migration pressure," the report said.

Dobrindt said Poland's actions on the border with Belarus are "incredibly impressive." "We see how effectively you fight illegal migration. We want the EU to give Poland financial and organizational support," the German official said.

"Together with Germany, France, Austria, the Czech Republic and Denmark, we agreed on the direction of EU migration policy at the Migration Summit in Zugspitze, Germany. Here, at the border, we show that our actions are concrete and effective," Semoniak emphasized in his turn.

He claimed that Warsaw effectively ensures security on the EU's eastern border by taking "concrete actions on a large scale."

Semoniak said that the border is now guarded by 11,000 border guards, and the efficiency of the measures taken is 97-98%.

July 21, it was reported that Poland has completed the construction of an electronic barrier on all sections of the border with Belarus, where there is no steel fence.

In Podlaskie Voivodeship, a steel fence of 5.5 meters high is installed on 186 kilometers of the border with Belarus, and on 206 kilometers (including river sections) - an electronic barrier.

In Lubelskie Voivodeship, according to Siemoniak, "acceptance tests" are underway, i.e. the final check of the 172-kilometer-long electronic barrier on the Western Bug (Bug in Poland) river.
