Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak has died at the age of 69.
Information about the general's death was reported on Portal X by the Polish Defense Minister.
"The sad news about the death of General Waldemar Skrzypczak has reached us. It is a great loss for his loved ones and for our entire military family. Professionalism, dedication to his country, and patriotism are the words that come to mind when we remember Mr. General. Thank you for the thousands of trained soldiers, for commanding them both at home and on missions. For the experiences the General shared with the younger generation to the very end. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family today," wrote Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The biography of General Waldemar Skrzypczak was closely connected with the army from his early childhood. He was born on January 19, 1956 in Szczecin. He spent his youth in Kolobrzeg, where his father served in the 32nd Mechanized Regiment for 20 years. In 1991, Waldemar Skrzypczak became the commander of this unit.
Continuing the family tradition, he began his military training in 1976. He graduated from the Stefan Czarnecki Tank School in Poznan, the Polish Army General Staff Academy in Warsaw, and completed postgraduate operational and strategic courses at the National Defense Academy in Warsaw.
From 2006 to 2009, the military officer served as commander of the Army. Previously, he commanded, among others, the Multinational Division Center-South in Iraq. In 2012-2013, he served as Deputy Minister of Defense for Armaments and Modernization.
After leaving the army, Skrzypczak became active in the media as a military expert. He founded a blog on which he commented on the current situation in the Polish army. The general also gave interviews to Charter97.org.
General Waldemar Skrzypczak had many Polish and foreign awards to his credit, including the Cavalier Cross, the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polish Renaissance, and the Golden Cross of Merit. He was also honored as Officer of the Legion of Merit in the United States and Grand Officer of the Order of Merit in Portugal.
