Residents of six neighborhoods in the enclave have been evacuated.

Israeli troops have launched a ground and air operation in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, an area where there has been no fighting on the ground for more than 20 months, BBC reports.

The operation began Monday morning, just hours after the Israeli military ordered residents of six residential neighborhoods in the southwestern part of the city to evacuate.
