The U.S. government has imposed sanctions against Russian company Aeza Group and its associated global network.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) reported.
"Today, OFAC is adding Aeza Group, a provider of so-called 'secure hosting' (BPH) services that plays a key role in providing cybercriminal infrastructure that targets users in the United States and around the world, to the sanctions list," the statement reads.
The OFAC statement notes that Aeza Group is headquartered in St. Petersburg. The company provided services to BPH cybercriminal groups and malware distributors, in particular to operators Meduza and Lumma.
Through the Aeza infrastructure, attackers carried out cyberattacks on U.S. defense industry companies, as well as technology companies in other countries.
In addition to the main company, two related firms and four members of Aeza Group's management team were also sanctioned.
Also, in cooperation with the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA), the US imposed restrictions on Aeza Group's UK-registered subsidiary.
